Journal and Event Submitters FAQ

What kind of file should I use when submitting to a CedarCommons journal or event?

While submission formats may vary based on the journal or event, the preferred formatting for documents is PDF and for images is .jpg or .png. For more details about what kind of file to submit to specific journals or events, please find the specific submission guidelines for the journal or event here.

If I publish a work through a CedarCommons journal or event, do I still own my work?

Yes, you still own your work! CedarCommons journals and events currently publish under the “Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivatives” Creative Commons License (CC-BY-ND 4.0). Authors who publish with our journals and events retain all rights to their work, allowing them to revise and republish their work in other journals, books, magazines, etc. CedarCommons’ retains the right to display your work as it was published in our journals and events even after it has been republished elsewhere.

For more information about  CC-BY-ND 4.0, visit the Creative Commons website.

For more information about copyright related to non-journal or event records hosted in CedarCommons, see our Copyright Policies page.

Can I revise a submission?

There are some restrictions on revising submissions. In all journal and event workflows, if a submission is still “Under Review” the author cannot revise it. However, once a decision has been made and if the work has been accepted, the author once again has access to revise their work.

I received a Revisions Requested email from CedarCommons. How do I submit my revisions?

Revisions can be submitted by navigating to My Submission Dashboard either through the link in the email or by logging in to CedarCommons, hovering over Personalize, and selecting “My Submission Dashboard.”

In your dashboard, you will see three tables: Under Review, Revisions Requested, and Published. Any submission for which a revision has been requested will appear in the “Revisions Requested” table. You can upload your revised document by selecting the pencil icon under the Actions header.

If you have any difficulty uploading your revised document or locating the correct submission, please contact ds@cedarville.edu

How can I know if I can submit to a journal or event?

All open journals list their desired submitters on the “Submit” page. You can find the information under “Who can submit” under each journal heading.

How do I submit work to a journal or event?

If a journal or event is open for submissions, you can generally find a “Submit Here” button on the “Submit” page.

For more detailed instructions on how to fill out the submission page, check out this instructional document.

How do I access my submission?

Your submissions can be accessed in My Submission Dashboard. You can access My Submission Dashboard by following these steps:

First, make sure you are logged in to CedarCommons. Navigate to the login screen by selecting “login” in the top right corner of the screen. If you are a Cedarville student or faculty, you can login using your Cedarville credentials in Single-Sign-On. If you are an external submitter, select “Local login” and enter your credentials in the fields that appear. If you are having difficulty logging into your account, please contact ds@cedarville.edu.

Once you are logged in to your account, hover over “Personalize” in the top menu bar. At the bottom of the drop down menu that will appear, select “My Submission Dashboard.” This will take you to a dashboard that will show all of the submissions you have made to CedarCommon’s journals and events, past and current.

I submitted a work to a journal or event but I can’t find it on My Submission Dashboard. What happened to my submission?

If you can’t find your submission in My Submissions, something may have interrupted the submission process. If this is the case, don’t worry! Your submission automatically saves to “Drafts,” the tab to the left of “My Submissions.”

If you still can’t locate your submission after checking “Drafts,” please contact ds@cedarville.edu for more assistance.

Why is the work I submitted to a journal or event still in the “Under Review” table in My Submission Dashboard?

All CedarCommons journals and events have a multi-layered review process that can take from two weeks to two months to complete. While timelines vary from journal to journal, don’t panic if your submission hasn’t moved from “Under Review.” If you would like to follow up on a submission, you can reach out to CedarCommons at ds@cedarville.edu to request an update.
