Errata and Takedown Policy
Purpose
The CedarCommons Institutional Repository (“the Repository”) is a service of the Centennial Library and Cedarville University.
CedarCommons exists to collect, preserve, and provide access to the scholarly, creative, and historical output of the University community. The Repository is committed to ensuring that its content is accurate, legally compliant, and respectful of the rights of authors, publishers, and the broader public.
This policy establishes procedures for:
- Recording and communicating corrections or errata to deposited works.
- Responding to requests for the amendment, withdrawal, or takedown of materials in CedarCommons.
1. Errata and Corrections
- Author Responsibility: Authors and contributors who deposit work(s) are responsible for the accuracy of the content.
- Errata Submission: If an error is identified, authors should contact the CedarCommons Administrators with a description of the error and the correction.
- Preservation of Record: To maintain scholarly integrity, CedarCommons does not typically replace or delete prior versions of deposited works; instead, corrections and updated versions are clearly indicated and linked.
- Correction Methods:
-Minor factual or typographical errors may be addressed by updating metadata or appending a note of correction.
-Substantive corrections may require the deposit of a revised version.
2. Takedown Requests
CedarCommons seeks to comply with all applicable laws, copyright agreements, and University policies. Materials may be considered for takedown under the following circumstances:
- Copyright Infringement: Evidence is presented that a work infringes copyright or related rights.
- Publisher Agreements: A publisher or rights holder provides documentation that repository access violates licensing or publishing agreements.
- Legal Compliance: Content is found to be defamatory, in breach of privacy or confidentiality, in violation of intellectual property rights, or otherwise unlawful.
- Research Integrity: The work has been proven to contain falsified, fabricated, or plagiarized material.
- Other Grounds: At the discretion of the CedarCommons Administrators, content may be removed if it is inconsistent with the mission or policies of the University or in response to a written request by an author with substantive reasons.
